Fallow Marches
Overview
The Fallow marches are a region east of the Elven Principalities, approximately 1200 miles long, north to south, and ranging between 300 and 500 miles wide. it is bounded on the west by the Eastwall Mountains, and on the east by the Sagat Hills, the Starfallen Wastes, and the Atan Hills. The primary features of this region are the Lazuli River basin flowing to the north, the Castella River basin flowing to the south, and the prominent lakes in the center areas, the Dawnmere and the Lake of Dreams.
Originally, this region was the jewel of House Glamourous holdings, until 606 IE when the High King, Illustrious III, decided the Eastwalls weren't scenic enough, and literally shoved them over fifty leagues, and in the process making them taller and more dramatic. The dwarves weren't happy about this, but this was a time of strong Elven nationalism and willingness to apply direct force to their problems, so they kept quiet. Within a decade, House Glamourous struck a deal with House Stellar, and they traded territories. House Stellar only dwelt in these lands for less than a century, before they disappeared across the EastFyre Desert, and calling down the Starfall in their wake.
Today, the Fallow Marches are technically overseen by the Houses Corundum and Sylvian, but are generally ignored as “too much work”, save for a cursory survey every five to ten years. In practice, the peoples of the Marches are largely self governing, not beholden to any of the larger powers…
…nor are they protected by them.
Population
The current populace of the Fallow Marches tend to be hardy, pioneering types seeking new lives unfettered by their pasts. Their primary contacts with the civilized world largely focus on the Old Trade Road, a high profit, high risk route between Yamato and Asteria, which also happens to be the shortest land route between the Mandarinate and the Principalities.
