Asteria

  • Bulgyar the Voracious - One of three known lesser dragons dwelling in the Altan Shan Mountains. Bulgyar is responsible for the “dragons sleep for centuries, wake up and eat everything” trope. While mean and lazy, he isn’t stupid: he didn’t show up at all while the sword of Gondor the Magnificent was in play.
  • Darrian of Gladen: Human male, early twenties. Champion of the Dragon God, Darian is a likable fellow, or average appearance and rather frightening combat ability. He works with, or for, someone in the Imperial Court who answers to the Emperor. Darian spends a lot of time flying around handling situations that can be resolved with cataclysmic force, in the company of…
    • Bernice: Bernice is Darian's friend, mount, and number one target of the Dragon God's blessings. She is also a Mountain Wyvern who was apparently hand-raised from the egg. Bernice may at some level believe she is in fact, a large dog. The back of Darian's two-handed axe is equipped with a sturdy gardening rake to scratch her itchy spots.
  • Gondor the Magnificent - Asterian folk hero from the early first millennium IE. Slew a dragon, saved the empire, owned the greatest magical sword in history, all that stuff. Unless you were raised under a particularly dense rock, you’ll know SOME of his song.
  • Kravt - At the end of the last century, he was the head of the Ministry of Mercantile Intelligence, and known to be a real penny pincher. M.M.I. is a fairly powerful group in Asteria, and has solid funding as well.
  • Langolier - Shoushou demon sealed in a cartoonishly large chain-mace. sarcastic to a fault, wielded by Pippin.
  • Lastion - “The Harbringer” (at least this month). A young solo Elven mercenary in Asteria who is by all accounts Heroically capable. A master swordsman, competent mage, accomplished adventurer. The Mercenaries Guild senior leadership is quietly worried that the appearance of someone this capable, kind, and enthusiastic is a warning of dire things to come.
  • Lukas - Baron of Black Diamond barony, Lavinia's older brother.
  • Pippin - Senior knight of the Holy Order of the Shoushou Knights. Wielder of Langolier.
  • Tamani Nightmistress: True goblin, late forties. Tamani has been a highly attractive and sexual woman since her teens, earning her Guildmistress status in the coastal city of Meregil at age 18. Political upheaval five years ago caused her to flee, purportedly setting up shop in Asterchreche. Tamani's utter refusal to employ dawnbalm resulted in her bearing around forty or more daughters (twins were not uncommon), most of whom also fled the area. Her children continue to debate if mom was incapable of bearing boys, or if they “disappeared” at the hands of her highborn clientele.
  • Thomas of Vintnar: Half-Elf, aged 182. Divine Champion of Mercy. Thomas is a kind, patient man who has been an adventurer for a LONG time. Currently on a personal journey to visit the graves of old friends who fell along the way, return certain souvenirs from whence he found them, and to do a little good along the way. While his father was a Desert Elf, he only inherited heightened awareness form that side: everything else he does is pure combat skill and channeling the power of his Goddess. He is accompanied by his blue chocobo, Azul, and a Slumbering Era Elven hunting bow named Silent Ending (Dínen Mentë).
  • Tyving NPCs
    • Ang Li: Mandarinate Uruk from the Mandarinate Mercantile association, twin sister to Ang Po. Li is the minute details and butt-kicking one.
    • Ang Po: Mandarinate Uruk from the Mandarinate Mercantile association, twin brother to Ang Li. Po is the sociable and long-term planning one.
    • Beryl Quistis: Viscountess, human woman of middle years with access to good cosmetic enchantments. Her family was elevated from a merchant background, and she is using her title to gain connections and access to politically gate-kept contracts.
    • Inga Shiningfist: Head receptionist at the main Tyving Mercenaries Guild branch. Former merc herself, she is a lean, iron-postured woman with faint scars and utter poise. She's also blessed by the Sun god, and an expert archer and pugilist.
    • Tenneth Rivalson: Human male around twenty, untitled nobility with one of the four Great Houses. Holding a grudge because Lady Topaz has not included him in her list of husband candidates.
    • Richard T: Functionary within the Ministry of Mercantile Intelligence. Dry wit, seems to be the irritating type that gets things done.
    • Topaz Leone: Viscountess of Apricourt, human woman in her late twenties. Family was elevated when great-grandfather, Champion of Vines and Groves, saved the barony region from economic catastrophe and an apricot blight. Topaz is shopping for husbands.
    • Tyving Sorland IV, Earl: Ruler of Tyving and the surrounding region. Probably a bit too focused on near-term issues to make a great leader, but he's holding things together.
    • Zhen: Siamese pattern cat with the Ministry of Mercantile Intelligence. Appears to have the ability to disappear.

Bois County

  • Alton: Human male, early forties. Regional recruiter for the Sorcerer's League. Familiar with Nariko's youngest sister.
  • Axel: Human male, early 30s. Sergent in the Baronial guard. Reasonably experienced for his post, even if he hasn't seen combat any more serious than repelling bandits.
  • Count Bois: aka Gerald Bois, current sovereign of Boisnoir County. A human in his late forties with one wife, one concubar, and four children. An overworked, yet fair ruler. Like his father before him, he doesn't really think his fiefdom qualifies as a “kingdom”.
  • Darring: Human male, late forties. Priest of the Road God. Had a short adventuring career before Higher Powers instructed him to settle on the Trade Road. Acts as the Voice Of Experience when it comes to Weird Stuff.
  • Dayla Tamanikin: Mercenaries Guild hall attendant. Cute, and clearly one of the younger children of the infamous Tamani. Keeps rowdy mercs in line by arousing their protective instincts.
  • Della: Kobold female, age 17. Priestess of the Fire God. Not as temperamental as her patron, but has the impetuousness down pat. Not so much ignorant as inexperienced.
  • Dulihane: Elven male, House Glamourous. Professional hunter, very well off, even more arrogant. You could buy Boisenoir with the value of his gear. Clearly taking a decade off from the homeland to show off to the lesser folk.
  • Gayln Coinsplitter: Capritaur woman, late thirties. Proprietor of the Sheep In A Barrel inn, and former mercenary. Unclear if she can still hit a coin at a hundred paces with a javelin, but she can hit your head with a bottle across the taproom!
  • Margaret “Margie” Butterworks: Human female, age 20. Enlisted in Count Bois guard as soon as she was old enough, as life in her parents' buttery was absolutely frustrating. A dependable, solidly built woman who knows when to Pay Attention.
  • Rinceling the Arch-mage: Human male, age unknown. From one of those Asterian complicated non-element focused schools. Has an oversized tower just outside the old town walls.
  • Sam Moccor: Human male, early fifties. Mercenary Guildmaster for Boisnoir. Tired. Oh so tired.
  • Severine Tilson: Human male, early thirties. Lieutenant in Count Bois guard forces. Usually gets the short straw when the assignment to deal with Weird Stuff comes around. Gets along well with mercenaries.
  • Thundering Charge: Mercenary group out of Verdante. Five Capritaurs and one Keshanti. Seems to be on equal footing with the party.
    • Halifax of Corrin: Keshanti warrior and local boy: was born about sixty miles from here. Possessed of a variety of exotic physical enhancement and aura skills that may as well be magic. For reasons that entirely escape him, he can get a better hire-price when he adopts a (phenomenally bad) Lallybroch accent. Party leader.
    • Arathan: Capritaur priestess of the North god. Comes from the far Tikume plains with her sister Zura. Theirs is a journey of discovery. Specifically, she's discovering new foods in new lands. She has good things to say about her meals in Philli.
    • Faffron: Capritaur archer, Kring tribes ancestry (Sunfall Tribe). Everything he does is purely skill based, and while those skills put him at your level, he's well aware he's going to have to go on The Quest to push beyond that. Has been to Moonwind Gather once, but finds the homeland “too empty” for his tastes.
    • G'rous: Capritaur scout, formerly of a Sunfall sub-tribe. “The son of the Herdwatcher elder and I didn't get along, harsh words were exchanged. And knives.” Solid mix of outdoors and back-alley skills, and a solid collection of tricksy widgets.
    • Rian of Southbend: Capritaur Spirit-Caller, Asterian citizen. Has no spirit magics beyond manifesting and buffing spirit beings. In addition to Carbuncle, he has two tree-hares (wood and water), one pseudo-kitsune (fire), and an apkallu (water). Rian has an interestingly secular approach to elemental spirits, and can either manifest Carby, or any two of the others.
    • Zura: Capritaur Blue-mage. Comes from the far Tikume plains with her sister Arathan. Like most Blue-mages, she's travelling to study monsters. Also show off. So far you've seen Mammoth's Strength, Blink-Mammoth's Teleport, Displacer-Mammoth's Displacement, Brass Wirehair Boar's Fur, and Hill Wyvern's Fire.

  • Kala - Number two general of House Tempus.
  • Mournegil - Viscount of Stilset, a House Drowe nobleman who made a generous donation to the monastery at Tesvevt Helvemvet some time back. In exchange, he is allowed access to the library, and the services of a young monk to fetch books and turn pages for him. Aside from his first trip, Mounregil always visits in astral form.
  • Perrain l'Leetah - Cealon's aunt, Skye's great-aunt; has outlived two husbands, one wife, and countless concubar. A withered old hag by Elven standards in her mid-700s, it is unclear how she is still alive after all these years. Cealon is terrified to cross her.
  • Regis I - First High King of the Elves. United his people, had epic adventures still told of today, vanished mysteriously.
  • Regis II - High King of the Elven Principalities. ~600 years of age, seeking immortality.
  • Torasin Leetah - Cealon's youngest son. World traveler, half-arsed adventurer, occasional diplomat. Sleeps with a lot of non-elves.
  • Velyn Leetah - Count Leetah’s first born and Heir. Despises her great-aunt, but knows better than to cross her overtly. Spends most of her time in the capital with Princess Aphael.

  • Jellybean: Impetuous junior member of the Kingsfall Greater Raven flock. Married to Isa, spent twenty years as a statue because he thought he could steam the forehead gem from a baby b}basiliskos serpent. He did intend to give it to Isa, honest.

His Household Guard has been chosen for their homogeneity of appearance, as have his concubines, and most of the ministerial court representatives. He's probably a decade away from having all newborns screened for “proper” features, and ejecting all non-Uruks from the Mandarinate.
  • Tong the Ox: Mistress Li-Song's head drover. Big for an Uruk, he served the company longer than Alina has been active in it.
  • Wing, Empress: Wing is a young noblewoman of five years, being raised to exacting standards in a distant temple of the Home Goddess.
