Fort Goldenrod
Overview
Fort Goldenrod is a feudal duchy roughly twenty miles downstream of Woodsdrop on the Gonglin River. It has a population of roughly 1500, spread out between the main fortress-town and the surrounding farming communities.
Duke Ares Goldenrod founded the territory forty eight years ago, after political disputes in the Asterian Empire left him with the choices of “flee penniless”, “accept assassination”, and “watch helplessly as his rivals funded border warlords to wipe him out”. To his credit, despite his (many) other failings, he had sufficient charisma to convince several hundred of his vassals to follow him into the howling wilderness.
The current “Duke” Titus Goldenrod rules sternly, if with a dedication his father certainly lacked. He is based out of a small Asterian style walled town with integrated keep: all stone, no surviving House Glamourous influences. The surrounding communities are simple clusters of four to six families out in the farmlands.
Population
Fort Goldenrod's population is 2/3 human, 1/3 true goblin, with a few representatives of other races. Positions of power are entirely occupied by humans. In case you're wondering, a superstitious fear of the Camwood is encouraged amongst the peasantry. The almost annual visit from marauding stone trolls certainly doesn't help.
Economy
Much of Fort Goldenrod's income comes from merchants who have to deal with the five days of wilderness travel between it and the next downstream community. The farms produce oats, turnips, and carrots in quantity, and only enough dairy for domestic use. Most metal products are imported, as are alcoholic beverages: the Goldenrod strain of grapes didn't survive the relocation.
