This is an old revision of the document!

Warg, Wild: pack-hunting canines the size of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Highly intelligent, most wild wargs are NOT sentient: if you encounter one that can talk, assume it was raised in civilization, and has deliberately “gone native”. To date, no one has managed to elevate an adult wild warg from “beast” to “person”, and the House Metamorphos Elves have been trying since the time of the Slumbering Era.

Water Strider, Giant: An insect with a body ~40cm long, possessed of 60cm legs or longer, with the peculiar ability to skate along the top surface of still and slow moving bodies of water. These creatures largely feed on aquatic creatures, stabbing them through the surface of the water with their proboscis, and sucking up the innards. Normally wingless, water striders born in drought years will develop wings, and attempt to migrate to wetter regions.

Wendigo: a shaggy breed of common troll found in the northlands. Masters of stealth, functionally immune to cold, and can find prey on moonless nights in a howling blizzard. Occasionally, they hunt in packs.

Wight: The undead incarnation of Greed. So attached to their treasures, they arranged to be buried with them, then their spirits stuck around rather than move on to Judgement. The wight's spirit will reanimate it's body to slaughter anyone it considers a tomb robber, and leave their grisly remains outside their lair as a warning to others.

Wisp: aka Will-o-the-Wisp, and a half dozen related names in Yamato and Madarinate folklore. Not actually a Fire entity, but Mind. Wisps dwell partly in another plane, and try to hypnotize people into marshes (or flooded rice fields), where they feed upon their fear and panic as they drown.

Wolf: everything people hate about other people's dogs. Pack hunting canines with tactics, and not enough fear of people. Wolves mass about the same as an average human.

Wraith: The undead incarnation of Obsession. Wraiths failed to complete some Great Goal in life, and are determined to hang around until it is completed. Normally intangible, newer wraiths possess the living, and drive them towards The Task until their health fails them. Older wraiths, being less willing to put up with outside input, will drain the life from the living, and use that energy to animate their corpse.

Wyvern, Hill: while despised by Kring nomads, they make better air cavalry than hippogryphs, and flock better than gryphons, if you feel like training a venomous, fire breathing lizard. Related to dragons, though smaller, they only have four limbs, and are articulated much like mundane avians.

Wyvern, Miniature: Similar in most ways to their larger cousins, save for size. Miniature wyverns are about the size of bald eagles, and hunt in flocks. They can be tamed, but never domesticated.

Wyvern, Mountain: larger and meaner than the hill variety, the mountain breed is only tamable by Beastmaster mages. Sentient members of the species abound in folklore, but have not been proven to exist.
