The Akiyama clan is a relatively minor noble clan in the [[Yamato Shogunate]]. Nariko's father, Eichi, was the family patriarch, with the title of //Hakushaku// (roughly equivalent to a Count). He was a decent and gracious man and, by the standards of the time, a good and generous ruler of his [[https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/77929872-4a5d-4ec5-84b0-19359271150c/dfw2zkb-dee1bc08-daf4-40a1-88bb-85528f08ae91.png/v1/fill/w_1600,h_900,q_80,strp/5k_lake_by_jaynl_dfw2zkb-fullview.jpg?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.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.3cIev-vV7VGceoCaQYotDQ32jybl8OO2Arf-INxWc0w|domain]].

Unfortunately Makoto, one of his sons and Nariko's brother, had ambitions. Nariko suspects but cannot prove that some youkai sorceror was behind it, pushing Makoto into his path of wrongdoing, but she has no proof. All she knows for certain is that loyal servants hustled her and her sisters ([[Chihiro]] and [[Tsubaki]]) out of the palace in the middle of the night, telling her their parents were dead, and rushing them off to allies outside the Shogunate.

Since that day, Nariko has turned to adventuring, to gain the resources and power she needs to avenge her family's losses and destroy the monster puppeteering her brother.

Nariko's primary combat skills lie in her archery, although she is not at all incompetant with tanto or wakizashi. She uses //ofuda//, paper talismans, to enhance her strikes and create other effects.

Outside of combat, she enjoys traveling and seeing new places, flower-arranging, and playing the flute.
